New Location in 2010!
Shepherd Center's Junior Committee has selected a new venue for its annual Derby Day event May 1, 2010: the Georgia International Horse Park in Conyers, Ga.
Derby Day has been an Atlanta tradition since 1981. Each year, the event is held on the first Saturday in May to coincide with the Kentucky Derby.
Considered a highlight of Atlanta's spring social calendar, Derby Day attracts more than 1,000 people each year, as well as hundreds of sponsors.
All proceeds generated from the event go to support Shepherd Center's
Therapeutic Recreation Program.
Derby Day will be held at the Georgia International Horse Park in Conyers, Georgia, site for the 1996 Olympic Games equestrian events. The Derby Day location within the horse park is a beautiful natural setting along the Yellow River in an open, grassy infield where driving events and polo matches are often held.
The Derby Day event is held at Foxhall Farm, a 1,200–acre horse farm bordering the Chattahoochee River in Douglas County, just outside Atlanta.
Guests enjoy an afternoon of fun, sun and beverages, watch the Kentucky Derby on big screens, enjoy barbecue and bid on travel packages and other items in live and silent auctions. Two live bands play during the day and into the evening.
Derby Day is organized by Shepherd Center's Junior Committee.
