Derby Day
Latest News

Our March meeting had a very packed agenda and it's extremely importnat that you make the April meeting. Final information will be given out, volunteer t-shirts will be handed out and it's our last chance to meet with everyone before the big weekend.

So go ahead and mark it on your calendars and try not to miss this one. It's going to be on Wednesday, April 15th. We would like to start the meeting at 7:00 p.m. not 7:15 p.m. So please try to get there a few minutes before 7:00 if at all possible. Now...the recap.

• 43 Days left until Derby Day!
• Membership is officially closed. If people are interested in joining, sell them a ticket and tell them to contact me and we'll get them signed up in August.
• We went through the schedule of the weekend. It can be viewed in Powerpoint by clicking here. Some things have changed. ALL members need to see this!!
• We are at $132,000 now. Doing good, have a ways to go to get to our goal!!
• We've raised almost $23,000 through the contacts that you all have given us which is mostly made up of $25 - $100 gifts. So you can see those really do add up. Keep those coming, keep blasting that out to people. We need more donations to still come in.

• We've got a lot of awesome auction items but we're still looking for more.
• If you've got connections to any companies or people who have access to anything or anyplace that you would bid on in an auction, ask them if they'd donate to our auction. Or email Reagan or Lauren and they will contact them for you.
• When you are in your favorite store, restaurant, bar, what-have-you, ask them if they ever donated to charity auctions. Most likely they do. Get their info/card and Reagan and Lauren will follow up with them and get them the information that they need.

• If you are a Steering Member (been on the committee for 1 or more years) and you did NOT sign up for a shift, you MUST email Miller or Kirk and tell them which shift you would like to sign up for. The committee shifts are listed on the power point presentation. Most have an early and a late shift. Please let them know no later than March 28th. After that, they will assign you to a shift. There are 340 members, they will do the BEST that they can to accommodate everyone. Please be flexible, remember, you're doing this to help people recover from a traumatic event.
• Provisional members will be assigned to a shift. DO NOT EMAIL KIRK AND MILLER AND ASK TO BE ASSIGNED TO A CERTAIN SHIFT
• Everyone will be emailed by their shift captain the week before the next meeting so you will know then what shift you have been assigned to.
• One of the most popular shifts every year is the beverage/bar shifts. A good way, for Steering AND Provisionals to get placed on one of these shifts is to obtain a alcohol serving permit. If you would be able to go out to Douglasville, get your background check and then get your permit, please let ME, MILLER OR KIRK know. DO NOT GO UNLESS WE HAVE GIVEN YOU THE GREEN LIGHT. We are still waiting on our State approval...
• If you are NOT going to be at Derby Day, EMAIL MILLER OR KIRK so they don't assign you to a shift.

• TICKETS - All members MUST sell 5 event tickets and 5 raffle tickets. If you do not sell all of your tickets, you will have to pay $10 for each event ticket not sold and $5 for each raffle ticket not sold. We're trying to raise money for the hospital and the easiest way to do that is to get more people out to Derby Day. Sell them to friends, co-workers, your parents, random people you meet at a party. More info on tickets on the power point presentation.
• Tickets don't have to be sold in the physical form. Send people to www.derbyday.com and they can enter your name in when purchasing tickets and you will get credit for those sold online. Physical tickets will be in next week. If you want the Physical tickets to sell, let me know and I'll mail them to you.

RESERVE YOUR HOTEL ROOM NOW! We all stay out in Douglasville Derby Day weekend so go ahead and get your room so you aren’t left without somewhere to stay. We stay at either the Holiday Inn Express Atlanta West – 770-920-9228 or the Sleep Inn Douglasville Concourse Parkway – 770-920-8887. They are right next to each other so we’re all right there together. There is NOT a group rate or block of rooms due to behavior several years ago.
• Start NOW selling your tickets (online). Steeplechase has moved to the weekend before Derby Day and they are twice as expensive and you get half as much. But if people buy those tickets first, they won't be as inclined to buy DD tickets. SELL THEM NOW!!
• We have prizes at the end of the year for the following: Person to raise the most money, person to have the most amount of people donate, person to sell the most event tickets, person to sell the most raffle tickets, Provisional Member of the Year and Steering Member of the Year.
